The .22-250 is in an odd position. It is searched for more than any other coyote cartridge by name, and at the same time two of the makers who built the classic varmint rifles have quietly stopped chambering it.
There are still forty rifles in the catalog, and they are not the ones that were here ten years ago. Bergara, Christensen Arms, CVA and Weatherby between them account for more of the list than Savage, and none of those four appeared on this page when it was first written.
Twist first, because it decides your ammunition
A .22-250 barrel’s twist decides how long a bullet it can keep point first, and the rifles below ship in three different twists. That is not a detail. It decides which half of the .22-250 load data is available to you, and it is fixed the day you buy the rifle.
- 1:9 — the fast one. Will stabilize the heavy .224 bullets, 69 grain and up, which is where the wind performance lives. Every one of the eight is a Bergara.
- 1:12 — the middle, and now the most common. Comfortable to about 60 grain.
- 1:14 — the traditional .22-250 twist, built around 40 to 55 grain bullets driven very fast. Anything heavy will keyhole.
The old assumption that a .22-250 is a light-bullet cartridge is becoming untrue while nobody says so out loud. Eighteen of these rifles are 1:12 and eight are 1:9, against thirteen at the traditional 1:14. If you want a .22-250 that shoots the heavy end of the ammunition list, that is now a purchasing decision you can actually make.
1:9 — the fast twist
Bergara is the only maker here treating the .22-250 as a cartridge that should shoot heavy bullets. If you want one rifle that can use the whole ammunition list, it is on this table — and it is worth reading the heavier end of the load data before choosing, because that is the reason to buy the fast twist in the first place.

1:12 — the middle ground
The most common twist on this list, and a reasonable default. Comfortable with the 50 to 60 grain bullets that most .22-250 factory ammunition is built around.

1:14 — the traditional twist
Built for light bullets at high speed, which is what the cartridge was designed around in the first place. Nothing wrong with it, as long as you buy ammunition to suit rather than finding out afterwards.

The cell is empty because the retailer does not publish it, not because it does not exist. Ask before you buy.
What has gone
The rifles that headlined .22-250 lists for years are mostly not made any more, and two are worth naming because the makers are still very much in business.
Browning has no varmint rifle in .22-250. The X-Bolt line is now the X-Bolt 2, and the varmint-class model in it is the Target Max. The old X-Bolt Eclipse Varmint and Varmint Stalker URLs redirect to Browning’s discontinued section.
Ruger no longer chambers the American Predator in .22-250. The Generation II Predator is offered in 204 Ruger, 223, 243, 6mm Creedmoor, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08, 308, 350 and 400 Legend and 450 Bushmaster — and not .22-250. The Hawkeye Predator in .22-250 is still on retailers’ shelves, but it is no longer in Ruger’s own catalog, so what is out there is what is left.

Thompson/Center was wound up by Smith & Wesson, Remington passed through bankruptcy, and Savage renamed its 11 and 12 series to the 110.

How this was checked
Every rifle above was listed in a major US retailer’s catalog on 3 September 2026, and the barrel, twist, weight and capacity are that retailer’s published figures for that specific model — not a manufacturer’s marketing page and not a reloading manual. Where a figure is not published the cell is empty rather than filled in from somewhere else.
A catalog listing is not a stock check. That retailer handles rifles through its stores rather than the basket, so every firearm on the site shows the same “notify me” state and no price to a browser. So this is a list of what is currently catalogd, which is a good proxy for what is being made and sold, and it is not a promise that any particular rifle is on a shelf this week.

Two honest limits beyond that. It is one retailer, so a rifle absent from this list is not necessarily out of production — the two negatives named above were confirmed against Browning’s and Ruger’s own catalogs rather than inferred from absence. And a list like this is true on the day it is compiled; the date above is the date it was true.
