Can I use a rifle at night during the night hunting season?
Sorry for the confusion, I’m updating the post to read “A licensed individual may travel afoot with only a bow and arrow, crossbow, a rimfire firearm .22 caliber or smaller, or shotgun with loads other than buckshot, slug, or cut shell.” So no, you cannot use a rifle.
When can I use a centerfire rifle too hunt coyotes in northern michigan?
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks for posting.
Have a question for which I am not getting an answer. I am told yes and no. Can I hunt coyote on state land (Michigan) at night? Or only private. I cannot locate anything that says yes/no however have been told by DNR staff that the answer is no. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Yes you can. My brother and I start up in January and hit it pretty regularly. I’m in SW Michigan and hunt state land 90% of the time.
Be prepared to be stopped and checked. Have ensure you are following the regulations on pages 48 and 49 and you’ll be fine.
I’ve been stopped by the sheriff, MSP, and DNR. People call in when they hear shooting from dusk to dawn.
Don’t even have a sip of beer or have anything illegal in your vehicle. I’m not saying you will but they will want to search your vehicle.
I tell them I’m predator hunting and I don’t consent to unwarranted searches. If you’re carrying concealed make sure you tell them.
Don’t mean to sound anti anything but I’ve been through it. After you run in to them a few times they’ll recognize your vehicle and usually won’t bother with you anymore.
I keep at it because there aren’t many people hunting public land at night and success is good for yotes and coon. Hope that helps
Thank you, for responding! Your response was informative and it clarified any questions that I had. Thanks again!
Hmmmm Kevin Ott the notorious Army Ranger!!! Hey uncle I just happily stumbled on your comment how about that! Love ya! Rangers lead the way!

Almost everybody in Michigan drives past a Walmart at some point making the price of
gas a non-issue for the majority of us. The only thing I’ve seen online cheaper than that is
Steel or light weight aluminum situation as well as some reloads.
What are the rules using handgun (day/night),and is there a caliber restriction?

If you read the law, they are doing damage yes, if no damage is done by them yes
By law if the coyotes are doing damage to property or animals no you dont need a permit. If they are not causeing damage then yes you do. Its super easy to get a license it cost me $11. If you cant get one or dont want one you can always advertize for coyote hunters.

Do you have to have a rim fire when hunting coyotes?
.44 mag has a bullet diameter of .429, does this mean it is over the caliber restriction of .269 during nighttime coyote?
Can I use a 308 for night hunting coyotes
As the regulations were referred to in the article for Michigan, you can only use .22, shotgun (not using buckshot, slug or cut shot) or a bow or cross bow. I believe those laws to be firearm safety distance laws. Note that some localities prohibit hunting/shooting any firearm and others limit before/after dusk (i.e. 10:45PM for noise ordinance). You should get a current copy of the laws and ordinances. You want to avoid potential fines, loss of fire arms rights and possible jail time.
I have a bolt 6.5 with a 10 round clip would it be legal to use it or is there a limit on bullet count?
